I’m Anna, and I come from Oulu, Finland. Have you run into Onni yet? He’s a friend I came to Madrid on holiday with.
A birdie told me that you might need some help preventing heat exhaustion.
Luckily, I’m an expert on the topic! I learned everything I know in the park where I play with Onni.
Everyone ready for the heat!
Heat exhaustion can cause symptoms such as headache, nausea, dizziness, weakness, irritability, thirst, and excessive sweating.
What can you do to prevent it?
Slow down
Try to reduce or reschedule intense activities to the cooler hours of the day.
Drink water regularly
At least one glass per hour. Try to avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine or sugary drinks.
Eat light
Choose easy-to-digest foods such as fruit or salads.
Dress for the heat
Wear light, loose-fitting, and light-coloured clothing to reflect heat.
Look out for your community
Children and older people can be more affected by heatwaves.
Even if we follow these recommendations, heat can still affect us.
If symptoms do not improve despite these tips, go to the nearest emergency service and ask for help.
And I give you the letter…
“I” for Important!
